We’re Dying Here

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

life had just begun
death came in the door
walkin in the sun
why’d you eat that for?

we may be tryin here
but we are cryin tears
mmm… we’re dyin here

finally had a son
from his barren wife
are we really done
cause now he takes a knife

we may be tryin here….

kingdom’s just begun
so began to seem
then all the soldiers come
and the disciples leave

we may be tryin here….

then in our fears
behind these walls
Life appears
the Lord of all

see His wounded side
those familiar eyes
yes it’s Him all right
now glorified

so here’s our death and sin
but we live in Him
mmm… and we’ll rise again

mmm… we’re livin here….

Lookin’ Away video

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

I’ve been wanting to do a video for this pro-life song for some time, and now I’ve got something up on YouTube…

Lookin’ Away on YouTube

Unfortunately, I don’t really have any real video resources, so it’s just a series of still images patched together in Windows MovieMaker, but hopefully it’s worth a look and (mostly) listen. If anyone out there has a bit of cinematographer (sp?) in them and wouldn’t mind a freebie project, I’d be happy to toss the audio your way….

Wanna Be Someone You Love

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Another acoustic/vocal recording at timgallant.com – Wanna Be Someone You Love. This is a love song I wrote ages ago. Always liked the melody but never got it recorded in any form, so here’s a start. I plan to have an electric version on my Anthology Love Collection CD.

One of the cutesy things I was messing around with vocally was a bit BeeGee-ish falsetto harmonies. Let me know how it worked.

Here are the lyrics:

Wanna Be Someone You Love

it’s written on every page, written on every line
it don’t matter where you start
you could see it clear as day, I know that you’re not blind
if only you’d read my heart

it’s more than my pride that’s on the line
can’t you see it in my eyes, read it in my mind
hear it in my voice as I call your name
hear it in the wind in the trees and the rain
hear it in my fears and my tears and my shame
hear it in my schemes and my dreams and my pain

I wanna be someone you love
I wanna be the one you need
someone you care about
the one who bleeds when you bleed
I wanna be someone you love

I wouldn’t say this unless I meant every word
I’m not just out in the stars
oh please don’t think I’m foolish, cause I’ve thought this through
so won’t you please read my heart

I wanna be someone you love….

don’t matter what you say to me
as long as it’s “yes”
don’t matter what you give to me
as long as it’s your best

I wanna be someone you love….

It’s more than my pride that’s on the line….

I wanna be someone you love….

Dead Men Don’t Rise – electric arrangement

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Dead Men Don’t Rise is now up at timgallant.com with an electric arrangement.

Just built on top of my earlier scratch/unplugged arrangement I posted earlier. So, it’s far from perfect, but a nice chance to fool around… including the softsynth bagpipes, which are always fun. (Had the drone down though.)

An unplugged version (i.e. just vox and acoustic guitar) of Dead Men Don’t Rise is now downloadable from my .com domain.

Dead Men Don’t Rise

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

My latest song, written today, April 1, for our Easter program….

Dead Men Don’t Rise

early in the mornin’
they come into the garden
nothin but some women
who don’t expect the livin

don’t call me gullible
it don’t take no science to see
dead men don’t rise   dead men don’t rise
you say you’re sensible
with wisdom of your century
I know what I’ve seen with my eyes
dead men don’t rise
dead men don’t rise

I’ve stood at the gravesides
of beloved faces
I know well what death is
I don’t expect them livin

and I stood on the hillside
a few short days ago
if anyone has looked into death’s eyes
brother, I should know
and dead men don’t rise

so don’t call me gullible
it don’t take no science to see
dead men don’t rise   dead men don’t rise
you say you’re sensible
with wisdom of your century
I know what I’ve seen with my eyes
dead men don’t rise
dead men don’t rise

early in the mornin
Mary comes into the garden
and what does she see with her eyes
ah, but dead men don’t rise….

don’t call me gullible
it don’t take no science to see
dead men don’t rise   dead men don’t rise
you say you’re sensible
with wisdom of your century
I know what I’ve seen with my eyes:
Christ is alive

timgallant.com

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

When I first got my domain, timgallant.com wasn’t available, so I picked up timgallant.org. A few years ago, the .com domain came open, so I snapped it up, but it really hasn’t had much there. I knew for some time that I wanted to use it for my creative side, and was streaming early demos from Metanarrative there for quite a while.

Well, as of now, it’s a real site, although I still have a few things I want to do – a nice gear pics page and a contact form. Take a look and see what you think!

As noted in an earlier post, this will be the site which I will keep up info for over the coming weeks regarding my efforts in the Hockey Night in Canada anthem challenge.

I’m in the Hockey Night in Canada Anthem Challenge!

Friday, August 8th, 2008

As most Canadians know by now, CBC decided not to renew their rights to the traditional HNIC theme song. Instead, they are holding a contest to find a new Saturday night anthem.

And… I’ve entered! You can find my first entry, “Hit the Ice,” at the CBC site here.

I’m hoping to find time to get another entry or two in, but the deadline is August 31, so we’ll see.

I’ll try to keep this site updated, but further challenge info is at the sister site, timgallant.com, where I’m eventually planning on keying my music stuff.

If you’re a fellow Canadian, please listen and consider voting for me when the time comes!!

The Witness of Ten

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Well, after writing no music for a very long time, I’ve put together another in the last couple of days. It recounts the testimony of the spies Moses sent into Canaan, and as the post title suggests, is called “The Witness of Ten.” Not sure when I’ll have a recording available, but here are the lyrics:

ONE:
there is a chosen band
nearing a promised land
the land has come in sight
the time has come to fight
send in spies to see
the riches of our dreams
through the eyes of a dozen men
this is the witness of ten:

CHORUS:
It’s a green green land,
it’s a good good land
It’s a land of promises
it’s a land that swallows us alive
We will not survive
It’s a land of giants
it’s a land of violence
Why’d you bring us here to die?
This is their land
this is not our land
May our souls be damned
We won’t take this land
from your hand
We’d go back to old slavemasters
Make return to past disasters
Do you understand what we confess
We won’t enter in to your rest
Let the grumbling begin
This is the witness of ten

TWO:
there are a couple men
trying to counter them
“the land is promised us
the Lord will fight for us
the Canaanites are stew
they’ll be bread for you”
but who gives heed to a couple men
against the witness of ten?

[Chorus; then continue to finale]

FINALE:
I’ve borne with this generation
How long will you test My patience?
Do you wish to die [in] this wilderness?
You won’t enter in to My rest
Let the judgment begin
All for the witness of ten
Let the judgment begin
All for the witness of ten
Let the judgment begin
All for the witness of ten

Some Guitar Goodness

Check out this 11-year-old wonder. Lots of songs to choose from. I’m very partial to “When the Children Cry” (yes, White Lion!).

Okay, here it is. As I say, just a quickie.

New Easter Song

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Wow, it’s hard to remember the last time I wrote a new song. (Actually, I’m not sure if I’ve even picked up my guitar since I finished recording the third volume of my Anthology.)

But with Easter looming and me supposed to do a song for the program, I was thinking during supper of perhaps writing something new. And an idea based on Romans 4 entered my head. It didn’t take long for this to emerge:

Out of the Grave
Words & Music by Tim Gallant March 9/08

Abram was old and Sarah was barren
Their bodies were cold their future in question
Years they had passed but Abram held fast
Receiving by faith a life from the grave
This is what Yahweh still counts a righteous response

Out of the grave and into the garden
Died for our shames raised for our pardon
This is just God at His Word
This is the life of the world

The unlikely son is born and is “laughter”
Things that are not are spoken and happen
The God we believe His Word we receive
The promise is strong give glory to God
This is what Yahweh still counts a righteous response

Out of the grave….

The truth is that both the lyrics and the tune are relatively simple, so writing wasn’t an involved process. I’m going to try to get a rough version recorded this evening, so I can have a tune outline preserved. I need to find some AA batteries for my music computer mouse first, though….
