Downloads

All this started in spring 2005, when I downloaded a cool open source recording application called Audacity, and threw a song on it to see how things would go. (Since then, I have moved on to Cakewalk products - first, Home Studio, then Sonar 4 Producer Edition, and finally Sonar 5 with all sorts of extracurricular goodies.)

The stuff on this site is free, but you can purchase some better quality music at pactummusic.com - there are presently three volumes available in The Tim Gallant Anthology. The Anthology collections are budget-priced, with lots of music for the money, and represent a chronological sampling of some of the best material I wrote over the years.

I also have some of my songs available for download at SoundClick (at www.soundclick.com/bands/3/timgallant.htm); among other things, I've used it as a host for demo versions of my big music project (see metanarrative.net).

Be aware that music files are large. If you're not on high speed Internet, you may have a good long wait.

A note: I used to have Flash versions and individual pages for some of these songs. I've scrapped that. But you can still download MP3s.

Original Hymns

My first song in this category is "A Eucharistic Hymn" - a song I've kind of wanted to get "out there" for some time. Hope you enjoy it.

"A Eucharistic Hymn" (4.61 MB) View lyrics here.

Rock / Pop

"How Long." (4:50 / 5.44 MB) A song for the persecuted Church, written while I was in seminary.

"Where the Road Ends." (4:54 / 4.39 MB) A sort of pop rock love song, written in 1992. View lyrics here.

"The White Lies." (4.67 MB) A very dated "oldie" from 1988, as can be seen from the apartheid theme. View lyrics here.

Folk

"Rivers." (6.75 MB). View lyrics here. I've wanted to record this for a long time. It is my favourite of my own songs; I only wish I could do it better justice. I first wrote "Rivers" back in 1988, and did a bit of tweaking in 1993. I redid quite a bit of the classical guitar parts. I'm certainly no classical guitarist, but it is better than the first version. To improve on this song much more, I would have to record everything fresh - there are timing issues in a few spots. Ah well. What can you expect for a free download? ;)

"Groaning." (mp3 only / 4.81 MB) Written for my mother. View lyrics here.

Country

"Out of the Grave." (4.04 MB). View lyrics here. An Easter song based on Romans 4. Not sure what to classify it, but when I first wrote it, it kind of reminded me of Alan Jackson, so I threw it in the country category. Added March 9 2008.

"I Don't Love You Like I Loved You Then" (5.61 MB)

Bluesy

"A Man I'll Never Be." (3.6 MB) A slight tip of the hat to the 1970s in the vocal harmonies, but as usual I don't really sound like anyone else (for better or worse). View lyrics here.

"I'm Gonna Go Free." (4.2 MB) I don't pretend this is among my best songs, but it was my most recent product when I downloaded Audacity, so I threw together a (very rough) recording. It is what it is.
